ICSSR sponsored Two Day National Seminar on Holistic Multidisciplinary Education – A Paradigm Shift in the Higher Education in India was organised on 10th and 11th September 2024 by the Department of Education, Unity College, Dimapur, Nagaland.
The National Seminar aimed to discuss, navigate and deliberate how holistic multidisciplinary approach can be introduced in the existing educational system focusing more on North eastern region. It also aimed to draw out the scope pertaining to holistic development of individual at par with 21st century skills.
The keynote speaker Prof. (Dr) M.A Sudhir, UGC Emeritus Professor, Department of Education, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Tamil Nadu spoke on the theme of the seminar where he emphasized to focus on harmonious development of individual and seek to cultivate an appreciation for diversity in education, promoting sustainable development and elaborated on the importance of holistic education focusing on body, mind and spirit including intellectual, emotional, social and physical development and how holistic education goes beyond academics. Prof. (Dr.) B. Bazeley Kharbirymbai, Professor, Dept. of Education, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya gave a special lecture on the topic – NEP 2020 and Higher Education. Furthermore, Prof (Dr.) Daisy Bora Talukdar, Professor,Dept. of Education, Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh, Assam delivered a special lecture on the topic – Challenges of Implementing Multidisciplinary in Higher Education in North East India.
The Two Day National Seminar was divided into four (4) technical sessions under four (4) sub themes viz, Holistic/ Multidisciplinary Education/Innovation in Higher Education/ Inclusive Education; Instructional Strategies for Holistic Education/ Indigenous Education / Community Engagement and Service; ICT/Transformative Pedagogy for the Future; and Skill Based/Students’ Engagement in Learning/Sustainable Approach to Education. Under these four sub themes, altogether there were sixteen (16) paper presenters which includes Research Scholars and Teaching faculties from different departments including Anthropology, Commerce and Arabic. The paper presenters were from across the State as well as outside the State such as Karnataka and Hyderabad.
