The Department of Sociology was established in 2011, marking a significant milestone in the Institution’s commitment to broadening the scope of knowledge. Offering Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in Sociology, we strive to explore the intricacies of human behavior and social structures in a scientific manner. Sociology goes beyond conventional perspectives, challenging taken-for-granted views of reality to provide a more profound understanding of social life, fostering a deeper understanding of societal dynamics. With this ethos in mind, the department ensures that students receive comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical fieldwork experience.

The department aims to impart sociological knowledge and skills, empowering our students with the qualities necessary to become proactive members of society. It is dedicated to fostering critical thinking skills among students to understand sociology in depth; provide opportunities for students to learn through direct observation and gain practical skills by conducting field-related studies, presenting research papers in college-level seminars, and writing articles that sharpen their analytical and communicative abilities. In doing so, the department motivates and mentor students to develop sociological imagination, nurture their academic creativity and strengthen their ability to engage with sociological issues in both scholarly and public domains.

The department further collaborates with experts of various field  organizing workshops, seminars and lecture series to provide in depth understanding of social realities, beyond classroom learnings.
