The College National Service Scheme (NSS) at Unity College was established in 2012 under the auspices of the Youth Resources and Sports Government of Nagaland, Kohima. NSS is a student-centered program that complements education by fostering the spirit of voluntary work among students and teachers through ongoing community interaction. Its overarching goal is the personality development of students through community service. NSS serves as an extension dimension to the higher education system, guiding student youth towards community service while they pursue their studies in educational institutions.
The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) at Unity College was founded on September 10, 2010, under the patronage of the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS). RRC is a movement dedicated to raising awareness about HIV/AIDS through service, education, and events. It aims to empower youth with accurate information on HIV/AIDS prevention, care, support, and treatment. RRC endeavors to cultivate peer educators who can effectively disseminate messages on positive health behavior and promote voluntary blood donation among youth.
Our objectives encompass fostering the personal development of young students and volunteers through active engagement in community service while instilling a sense of selflessness and dedication towards ongoing efforts. We strive to raise awareness among youth, particularly students, regarding the critical issue of HIV/AIDS, aiming to empower them with knowledge and understanding. Additionally, we endeavor to cultivate a culture of voluntary blood donation among our students and volunteers, recognizing the crucial need for such contributions in saving lives and supporting healthcare initiatives.
On 1st September 2023, an MOU was signed in between National Service Scheme(NSS) Unity College and College of Nursing, Christian Institute of Health and Research Dimapur, Nagaland with an object to develop knowledge and skills on Basic First Aid Procedures
On 14th October 2022, the NSS/RRC with Kripa Foundation organized an awareness program on Drug Abuse Prevention at the seminar Hall. The objective is to educate the students/volunteers keeping them reminded about the risk associated with drug use and the potential consequences of addiction and abuse. To create healthy, positive environments one can also work to improve our communities by creating opportunities for people to be active and engaged in their neighborhoods that can also help reduce crime and social problems, and can also provide a sense of community and connection for people.
On 29th October 2022, as directed by the NSS Directorate to Organize Program to collect trash and plastics wastes and ensuring to get certificate from third party(where volunteers cleaned) from ward councilor or panchayat/village head as part of ‘‘Clean India Campaign 2.0’’. The National Service Scheme (NSS) carried out Cleanliness Drive around Duncan highway Stretch and collected 51.3 kilograms of trash and plastics and were disposed safely.
On 8th May 2023, National Service Scheme (NSS) Unity College in collaboration with CIHSR (College of Nursing) Observed World Red Cross Day. Activity based learning on Basic First Aid procedures was conducted. The students were equipped with simple bandaging, open wound bleeding basic management, preparation of ORS at home, nose bleeding etc.
Along with the rest of the world, the Red Ribbon Club (RRC) under NSS Unity College, celebrated World Blood Donor Day on 14th June’ 2023 in collaboration with Department of Transfusion Medicine, Christian Institute of Health Science and Research (CIHSR) Dimapur with the theme, “Give blood, give plasma, share life, and share often”. The program aims to focuses on patients requiring life-long transfusion support underlining the role of every single person in donating valuable gift of blood or plasma. The event also highlighted the importance of giving blood or plasma regularly to create a safe and sustainable supply of blood that can always be available all over the world so as to help patients in need.
On 21st & 22nd September 2023, under the banner of Red Ribbon Club (RRC) two PG students attended a Dengue Awareness Campaign at CIHSR in collaboration with Department of Health and Family welfare Government of Nagaland under the theme Fight the Bite, Beat Dengue. The program was held with the primary objective to raise awareness of Dengue prevention, early detection and effective management within the community. Different sessions were conducted where in the first session discussion was on an overview of Dengue: cynical symptoms, complications and public health importance. The second session was about Dengue; vector, its breeding site and control measures.Various private colleges and seminaries from Dimapur District attended the session.
On 6th September 2023, The NSS Cell in collaboration with Team Better Dimapur held an awareness session with the theme ‘‘let’s keep our city clean’’. The objective of the session is to educate/sensitize the youngsters/students to coming forward in making our city a cleaner, greener and healthier city.
Unity College National Service Scheme (NSS) with Dimapur Traffic Police (DTP) conducted a session on Road Safety Awareness on 13th November 2023 at College Lawn.The objective is to educate students about the use of road and recommend measures and devices that will minimize and /or eliminate crashes on the highways.
Unity College is recognized by the Government of Nagaland vide notification No. HTE/5-3/2002 dated 11th Dec. 2007 and is permanently affiliated to Nagaland University vide notification No. NU-CDC/C-52-2007-2801 dated 12th Sept. 2012.
