The Institutional Innovation Council ( ICC), Department of Sociology and Unity College Students Union (UCSC) observed World Creativity and Innovation Day on 21st April, 2025 by organizing a programme on the theme: Step Out and Innovate, with Mr. Jongpong Chiten, Director & Co- Founder, Sutsung Enterprise Ltd. 

The programme was chaired by Mr. Rajkumar BA 6th Semester, Department of Sociology. Mr. Nikito Kiho,  Cultural Secy., UCSC was the Rapporteur. 

In the Introductory note, Dr. Vinitoli Zhimo emphasized the relevance of innovative practices in society drawing reference from Coser’s work on how new and creative solutions contribute to solving problems in society.

The resource person Mr. Chiten shared about how Sutsung Enterprise committed to managing wastes, grew from  an idea, leading to explorations, connecting with experts in the fields and applying for research grants. Focusing on food waste Chiten presented the process of converting wastes into reusable materials such as animal feeds with the use of insects. On plastic waste Chiten presented how Sutsung Enterprise was producing eco-friendly plastic bags.

Chiten also brought attention to other forms of waste such as industrial waste, e-waste, and textile waste etc. The presentation was followed by a ‘q and a’ and wrapped up with Mr. Shitio Shitiri, Dean UG , delivering the closing remarks appreciated the organizers, the resource person, and the participants for contributing to a meaningful dialogue on innovation.
