On 28th March 2026, the Department of Economics organised a field trip to Sunika Enterprise, which is a variety tea business located in Nikhekhu village under Niuland district.
Mr.IghatoYeptho, Proprietor of Sunika Enterprise, provided practical insight into tea processing, value addition, packaging, branding, and market demand. He reflected on the wider trend in the tea sector where processing, packaging, and branding create entrepreneurship opportunities and add more value than raw tea leaf sales alone. Sunika’s products include specialty blends such as Moringa, Blueberry, Raspberry, Apple, Blue pea, Alphonso Mango, Roselle, Ginger, Spearmint, Safflower, etc.which are sourced from the hilly region. Each variety is produced as per the health benefits of each natural herbs and spices.
The objective of this field trip was to help students connect classroom concepts with real business operations and to show how small enterprises contribute to income generation, marketing, and regional development.
The field trip helped students understand the practical side of economics, especially production, value addition, consumer behavior, and market strategy. It also showed that even a small tea enterprise can contribute to economic development through branding, specialization, and local employment.
After the session, students asked several questions to better understand the functioning of Sunika Enterprise and the economics behind a variety tea business.
Altogether 34 students and 3 faculty went for the field trip.
