Department of Commerce Activities

In keeping with the belief that curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities go hand in hand for the all round development of students, the Department of Commerce carries out various curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities throughout the year. Some of the activities conducted in the past few years have been highlighted below:

  1. Seminar/Webinar: A Combined M.Com Webinar was conducted from 5th to 8th July 2021. Students of both M.Com 1st and 3rd semester presented papers on various syllabus related topics.
  2. Wellness Webinar: The Department of Commerce organised a Wellness Webinar on 21st August 2021 under the theme “Yoga for Physical and Mental Wellness.” 
  3. Online lecture session: The Department of Commerce organised an online lecture session on 18th September 2021 on the topic “Social Media Marketing.” The Resource Person was Mr. Suraj Sunar, an Alumni of Unity College. 
  4. Commerce festival: On 25th of February 2022, the Department of Commerce organized the Annual Inter-Collegiate Commerce Festival “COMMVANZA 2022” (Virtual Edition 2.0). The festival was organized under the theme “Digitally Empowered Resurgence.’ Students from across Nagaland participated in the festival. 
  5. Celebration of World Consumer rights day: On 15th of March 2022, the Department of Commerce organised an awareness programme in collaboration with the State Bank of India to observe World Consumer Rights Day under the theme “Fair Digital Finance.”
  6. Lecture sessions: The Department of Commerce organised Research Methodology Lecture Sessions for M.Com 2nd and 4th semester students on 22nd and 23rd March 2022. 
  7. Industrial visit: In order to acquaint the students with the practical nuances of running a cement factory, B.Com 6th semester students were taken for a visit to CCI Bokajan Cement Factory on 9th of April 2022. 
  8. Webinar: On 11th of April 2022, the Department of Commerce in collaboration with the Crypto University Mumbai organised a webinar on “Future of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency.”
  9. Campus visit: M.Com 4th Semester students visited Kaziranga University Campus to attend a Leadership Program on 30th of April 2022. 
  10. Peer teaching: Peer teaching session was conducted on 8th July, 2022 wherein M. Com 3rd semester students were engaged for peer teaching in B. Com 5th semester.
  11. Orientation programme: On 23rd August, 2022 Orientation programme was conducted for M. Com 1st semester students followed by commencement of classes.
  12. Industrial visit: On 30th August, 2022 students from M. Com 3rd semester (Management Honours) visited some organizations to study the Recruitment Practices of the organizations.
  13. Interactive session: On 21st September, 2022 HRM students of M. Com 3rd semester had an “Interaction session on Recruitment and Selection” with Mr. Gautam Chongtham, Human Resources Manager at Rivoli Group, Dubai, UAE. 
  14. Industrial visit-cum-exposure trip: M. Com 3rd semester students were taken for an Industrial visit to Bamunimaidan Industrial Estate, Guwahati on the 23rd of September, 2022. The students got the opportunity to visit three industries. After the industrial visit, the students were taken for an exposure trip to Meghalaya from 24th to 25th September.
  15. Training program: A One-Day Skill Development Training Programme was conducted under the theme “Sustainability through Green Skills” on the 23rd September 2022, in collaboration with the Banana Co. (Hengna & Maben Pvt. Ltd.) to impart on students the essence and power of green skilling.
  16. Session on Tally: On 15th October, 2022 an interactive session on “Tally” was organised for B Com students. The resource person for the program was Mr. Deepanjan Dhar, Center Manager, Institute of Information Technology & Skill Training Center (Tally certified partner), Dimapur.
  17. Seminar: A Combined M.Com Seminar was conducted from 15th to 17th November 2022. Students of both M.Com 1st and 3rd semesters presented papers on various syllabus related topics.
  18. Research activity: As part of research related activity for Post graduate students, the department organised a webinar on “How to write research proposals” with Dr. Sunildro L S Akoijam, Asst. Professor, NEHU as the resource person on January 27, 2023. 
  19. Skill development courses: The Department of Commerce initiated six-week long skill development courses (Government sponsored) for the students of all streams in the month of January. These courses were offered in association with Nagaland Tool Room and Training Centre, Dimapur. Various courses offered to the students were: Cooking of local cuisine, Plumbing tools and fitting, Post harvest management of fruits and vegetables, Natural fibre processing & handicraft making, and Bamboo utility handicrafts assemble.
  20. Inter-Collegiate Festival: CommVanza, the annual inter-collegiate Commerce and Management festival was organised on the 18th of February, 2023 under the theme “Fostering Sustainability and Equitability”. Altogether 14 colleges across Nagaland participated in the festival. 
  21. World Consumer Rights Day: Department of Commerce celebrated World Consumer Rights Day on 15th of March, 2023 under the theme ‘Empowering consumers through clean energy transitions”. 
  22. Seminar: Combined seminar presentation for M. Com 2nd and 4th semesters was held from 29th -31st March, 2023. Students of both semesters presented papers on various syllabus related topics.
  23. Interactive Session: On the 6th of April 2023, Students of B. Com 6th semester had an interactive session on online MBA courses. Representatives from StudyNext, an initiative to offer online MBA courses, came and interacted with the students.  
  24. Interactive Session: On the 18th of April, 2023 students of B. Com 4th & 6th semester had an interactive session with representatives of PIBM (Pune Institute of Business Management), Pune. 
  25. Industrial visit: On 29th and 30th of April, 2023 students of B. Com 6th semester accompanied by 2 faculty undertook an industrial visit to Khonoma, Kisama and Dzuleke. 
  26. Peer teaching: On 22nd August, 2023 Peer Teaching session was conducted wherein M. Com 3rd semester students were engaged to teach B.Com 5th semester students with an objective to help students engage their own active learning and critical thinking skills.
  27. Orientation program: On 28th August, 2023 Orientation program was held for the M. Com 1st semester students.
  28. Industrial visit: On 9th September, 2023, the Department of Commerce undertook an industrial visit for Postgraduate students (M. Com 3rd semester) to Dergaon, Assam. The students accompanied by 2 faculty visited 6 different industrial units, namely soap, tea, water, tiles, packaging, poles.
  29. Seminar presentation: Department of Commerce organized combined seminar presentation for M.Com 1st and 3rd semester students from 19th to 20th October, 2023.  
  30. Faculty Exchange: The Department of Commerce initiated a two-day Faculty Exchange Program with Tetso College on 26th and 27th October, 2023. 
  31. National Seminar: Two-day ICSSR sponsored National Seminar was organised by the department on the theme, “Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Infrastructure for sustainable development in North East India: Priorities and Perspectives” on the 3rd and 4th of November, 2023.
  32. National Entrepreneurs Day: National Entrepreneurs Day 2023 was celebrated on 21st November 2023 under the theme, “Bring Your Idea to Life.”
  33. Workshop on Research Methodology: As part of research activity for Postgraduate students, the Department of Commerce organized a one-day Research Methodology Workshop for the M.Com students on 21st February, 2024 on the topic “Research Gap Identification and Problem Formulation” with Prof. Gautam Patikar, Professor, Department of Commerce, Nagaland University as the resource person.
  34. Interactive session: Department of Commerce organized an interactive session in collaboration with Indira School of Business Studies, PGDM Pune on 1st March 2024 with Ms. Sarita Agarwal, Assistant Professor at Indira School of Business Studies as the resource person on the theme “Classroom to the board room: Roadmap to the future interactive session.”
  35. Inter-Collegiate Feastival: The Department of Commerce organized its Inter-Collegiate (Regional level) Commerce and Management Festival COMMVANZA 2024 on 2nd of March, 2024 under the theme “Commerce Convergence: Bridging Traditions with Technology.” The events of the festival were The Entrepreneur, Quiz O Mania, Group Discussion, Turncoat, Shutterbug and Mr. & Ms. Commvanza. A total of 15 colleges across Nagaland and Assam participated in the festival in various events.
  36. World Consumer Rights Day: The Department of Commerce celebrated World Consumer Rights Day on 15th March 2024 under the theme, “Fair and responsible AI for consumers.” The program was jointly organised by the Department of Commerce, Unity College, Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Government of Nagaland and Nagaland Consumer Rights Organization with Mr. James E. Jungio, President of Nagaland Consumer Rights Organization as the resource person.
